SIO in protests for Justice to Rohit Vemula

In the wake of the recent suicide of a dalit student at the University of Hyderabad, SIO Mumbai along with AISA and various other organizations from TISS, TIFR, IIT-B and MU took to the streets at the Mumbai university campus.

SIO believes that the MHRD should take some concrete steps towards marginalization of students and radicalization of educational institutions across India. It's our earnest desire to see the social fabric of India to be acknowledged and spread through the campuses of india. We would like these campuses to became a safe haven for healthy discussions and a cradle for the development of the society at large. And such condemnable events bring hurdles to these aspirations of ours.

Second phase of SIO Mumbai's protest on Rohit Vemula's suicide took at Azad Maidan when team of few SIO members joined various Student Organizations like Vidhyarti Bharati Sanghatan and Individuals like Kishorda Jagtap, Feroz Mithiborwala, Naushad Usmani, etc.

"Koonu qawwamina bil-Qist (Be the upholders of Justice), Students Islamic Organization is with Rohit Vemula, We condemn Hindutva Academia and the height of Intolerance reaching across the nation. Universities are the grounds of acquiring Knowledge, You politicians stop your interference afflicting student community with fascism." said Suhaib Shahab respresenting SIO Mumbai at Azad Maidan.

In its third phase, SIO Mumbai participated in Protest rally organised by "Justice for Rohit - Joint Action Committee Mumbai" and was also a part of the committee.

A massive Protest March was held from Byculla to CST demanding justice for Rohit Vemula and all other victims of Communal fascism and Academic Hindutva.

Thousands of People from different Student Organisations, Colleges, Political and Non Political Organisations etc took part in Protest. SIO Mumbai took active part in Protest and demands the govt to punish all the culprits who led to institutional Murder of Rohit Vemula.

Our Journey

Your Pearls of Wisdom

Success breeds success

There was a farmer who grew superior quality, award-winning corn in his farm. Each year, he entered his corn in the state fair where it won honors & prizes.

One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew his corn. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors.

"How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with
yours each year?" The reporter asked. "Why brother"

'' The farmer replied, "Didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen grains from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field.

If my neighbors grow inferior, sub-standard & poor quality corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I have to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors to grow good corns."

The farmer gave a superb insight into the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbors' corn also improves. So it is in the other dimensions and areas of life!
Those who choose to be in harmony must help their neighbors and colleagues to be at peace.

Those who choose to live well must help others live well. The value of a life is measured by the lives it touches...

Success does not happen in isolation; it is most often a participatory and collective process. So share the good practices, ideas and new knowledge with your family, friends, team members and neighbors & all.
