Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Fellowship for higher studies

New Delhi: With the aim to gear up students from Minority communities in the field of education, Government of India has launched ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Fellowship’ for them which, will encourage and financially help them.

Under this scheme students will be provided with integrated five year fellowships in the form of financial assistance as notified by the Central Government to pursue higher studies such as M. Phil and Ph.D.

This fellowship will be on the pattern of University Grants Commission (UGC) Fellowships given to research students pursuing regular and full time M. Phil and Ph.D courses and the scheme will cover all Universities/Institutions recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) and section 3 of the UGC Act and will be implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) through UGC for students belonging to the minority communities.

The total number of fellowship holders each year will be 756 which will be known as MoMA scholars. Of them, 30% shall be earmarked for women students and remaining 70% will be general. In case the shortage of women candidates, the fellowship can be passed on to male students. The reservation for differently-abled students shall be made as per the UGC norms.

Besides, if required number of candidates is not available and the number of fellowships not availed during a year, it will be forwarded to the next academic session.

The rate of fellowship for JRF and SRF will be at par with the UGC Fellowship as amended from time to time. Presently these rates are as follows:

Fellowship @ Rs.12,000/- p.m. for initial two years (JRF)

@ Rs.14,000/- p.m. for remaining tenure (SRF)

Contingency for Arts & Commerce @ Rs.10, 000/- p.a. for initial two years

@ Rs.20, 500/- p.a. for remaining three years.

Contingency for Sciences & Engineering @ Rs.12, 000/- p.a. for initial two years

@ Rs.25, 000/- p.a. for remaining three years.

Departmental assistance @ Rs.3,000/- p.a. per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure

Escorts/Reader Assistance @ Rs.2,000/- p.m. in cases of physically and visually challenged candidates

There was a farmer who grew superior quality, award-winning corn in his farm. Each year, he entered his corn in the state fair where it won honors & prizes.

One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew his corn. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors.

"How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with
yours each year?" The reporter asked. "Why brother"

'' The farmer replied, "Didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen grains from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field.

If my neighbors grow inferior, sub-standard & poor quality corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I have to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors to grow good corns."

The farmer gave a superb insight into the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbors' corn also improves. So it is in the other dimensions and areas of life!
